On this show, Dave Riccio of Tri-City Transmission in Tempe, AZ talks about why you fail emissions tests and why shops say they have to remove your transmissions to inspect. Also on this show:

• When shops take out your transmission to inspect, you are often stuck with whatever quote they give you.
• Chevrolet Blazer with 4L60 Transmission: Very common transmission and drive shells commonly break. You do not have to take it apart to find out what's wrong
with it.
• Online Auto Reviews: Sometimes a shop will charge more for better service and repair, so not all quotes are equal.
• If you have a good relationship with a shop, stay with them.
• 2006 Chevrolet Impala with 190,000 miles. Check engine light is on intermittently. Car MD Code says it's a timing chain.
• 1996 Toyota Avalon with 200,000 miles. Check engine light is on. Shop said is was the oxygen sensor and would cost $1600.
• 1989 S10 Blazer. Exhaust system fell off and is being held up with wires.
• 2013 Jeep Wrangler. Manufacturer calls for 5W20 Oil and I've always used 5W30.
• 2004 Ford Explorer. Check engine light on. Turned the light off for emissions test, but failed anyway.
• 2000 Ford F150 with 210,000 miles. How many miles will I get out of my transmission if I've been keeping up with maintenance?
• 2003 Daewoo. Sitting for five years and does not start. Was told to use fuel additive to get it started.
• 1996 Saturn ST. Rattling sound in the front. Radiator shakes when turning car off.
